Driving license
Driving license:
If your driving license was issued in a member state of the European Union, you can drive in the Netherlands on your foreign license for 10 years after registering as a resident. Then you must exchange your driving license for a Dutch one. This is done at the Gemeente where you originally registered. The Gemeente will send the entire application to the Minister of Transport for processing.
If your driving license was not issued in the European Union, you may drive for six months after registering as a resident. If you work under the 30% tax regulation, you can exchange your license if you obtain a copy of a statement issued by the tax office. If you don’t fall under this tax ruling, you will need to sit a driving test. Contact a driving school, as all learning must be with a qualified instructor. They will handle all paper work.
